Note:

The case between A.A. Cohen and H.B. Tichenor concerned property in San Francisco held in trust by William Ralston with Cohen and Tichenor as investor's. Sometime around 1875 Ralston transferred the property to Tichenor without Cohen's consent and in 1877 Cohen sued Tichenor for his share.
